It is the stated policy of the Provincial Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to provide timely and affordable justice to its citizens, promote and protect their basic fundamental and human rights and legislate practical and much needed laws.
The Law Department has the leading responsibility to ensure implementation of the above stated objectives. Recently the Directorate General of Law & Human Rights has been formed which will have the effect of improving service delivery and implementation of policies.
Furthermore, while the Government in its last tenure enacted a record number of statutes for the welfare of the people, now the focus is on implementing these laws. A package of legal reforms has been painstakingly thought out and prepared which when enacted will ensure speedy and fair justice for all.
The Law Department is committed to ensure protection and promotion of Human Rights, welfare based legislation and efficient service delivery.
Law Department is one of the regulatory departments of Government, mandated to defend Government civil litigation, providing a legal opinion, and thus ensure oversight of the Administrative Department's legal matters. And most importantly oversee human rights issues and tries to resolve them. Under Rule 12 of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Government Rules of Business, 1985, Law Department is mandated to vet and draft Principal legislation such as Bills, Ordinances, and sub-ordinate legislation i.e. Rules, Regulations, and Notifications, etc.
Law Department endeavors to promote good governance by highlighting measures to the Government strictly in accordance with the Constitution of Pakistan, Rules of Business, 1985, and in accordance with laws in vogue.
